What is CYCLE42?
CYCLE 42 began as a community hub on a development site on Station Road in Colliers Wood. In addition to our partnership with Brompton Bike Hire that provided 50 Brompton bikes on hire to local residents at no cost, it was utilised by a number of charities offering services to the residents of Merton.
The charities that Cycle42 has partnered with so far are:
The Bike Project who repair and upcycle second-hand and donated bicycles to refugees and asylum seekers across London, they hosted pop up events where they offered bike repairs, servicing and sold affordable reconditioned bikes to locals. They would still welcome donations of your old bikes (the ones that have been cluttering up your garden shed for years) and up-cycle them.
Care4Calais is a volunteer-run charity delivering essential aid and support to refugees living in the worst conditions. At Cycle 42 a team of volunteers organised a food and clothes bank two days a week.
Dons Local Action Group help vulnerable residents of Merton to tackle poverty and isolation, providing food parcels, household goods, furniture to people in need - and digital devices to children so they can access online learning. CYCLE at 42 Station Road was used as their central hub to collect and store donated and up-cycled furniture that were given to vulnerable residents of Merton at no cost.
